Applicants for Canadian citizenship must generally meet a physical presence requirement, which currently requires that the applicant has been physically present in Canada for a defined number of days within the qualifying period preceding the application.
Days of physical presence must be documented and, in many cases, are reviewed alongside travel history, entry and exit records, and other supporting documentation. Applicants should carefully review their travel history before applying, and correct any inaccuracies where possible.
Applicants are also generally required to meet income tax filing obligations, language requirements (within a specified age range), and, in most cases, the knowledge requirement, which is assessed through a citizenship test.
Each application depends on the applicant's individual history. Meeting the physical presence threshold does not automatically result in approval, and additional documentation may be requested by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada during processing.
