Express Entry is not a program in itself; it is an application management system used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to manage applications for certain federal economic immigration programs, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class.
Candidates create a profile providing information regarding age, education, official language ability, work experience, and other relevant factors. Profiles receive a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score based on the details provided. Candidates with sufficient scores may receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) during periodic draws.
Receiving an Invitation to Apply is not the same as receiving permanent residence. Applicants who receive an invitation must submit a complete permanent residence application, supported by required documentation, within a set period.
Category-based selection has, in recent years, allowed IRCC to invite candidates with specific attributes, such as strong French language ability or work experience in identified occupations. Program requirements and category priorities may change from time to time.
Each applicant's situation is unique. Meeting the eligibility threshold for a program does not mean an invitation will be received, nor does receiving an invitation guarantee a final approval.
